About
Bright Apple is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded on the belief that no child should go without food. Many students in our school district have lunch at school but don’t eat again until lunch the next day. Common sense informs us that we can’t begin to close the achievement gap until our children are able to focus on things other than basic necessities. Our mission is to ensure that every elementary school student in Maury County receives a snack during the school day to help them concentrate longer and improve their academic success. Studies show that if students are behind in reading by third grade, most never catch up and many will not graduate high school. It’s our goal to be a little piece of helping solve this academic achievement gap.
We have relationships with food distributors to have USDA Smart Snacks (apples, bananas, cheese and crackers, etc.) sent directly to our participating Bright Apple Schools. This cuts down on our cost and allows us to serve more students. Currently, it cost a little less than forty dollars for us to provide one student a Smart Snack every school day for the entire year. With your help we can serve every in-need elementary school student in Maury County.
Our greater goal is to see Bright Apple in middle and elementary schools across the state of Tennessee. Will you become a friend of Bright Apple today?
